bath med cabinet design questions

Hi All,

I'd love a quick survery of what you guys think I should do here.

Sink will be replaced with another corner sink, slightly bigger.

Floor will be tiled.

I'm finding it hard to find a period style corner medicine cabinet. there was previously something on the wall in the front in the first picture here: I never used this bathroom (just bought the house) so not sure how functional this was.
Can my corner sink (and toilet) be salvaged??

There are plenty of classic looking cabinets that I like enough, but I'm not sure how it would fly to have to always be skewed from how you'd stand at the sink.

Here are a few:

http://www.vandykes.com/product/fb11...e-cabinet-kit2 (i think this would protrude too far into the sink area.)

(this one is great, too, but the person won't ship it to me.)

is is critical to go corner cabinet for corner sink?

the bathroom will be part of my rental unit, but it's also my house so i want it nice/right.

thanks for any suggestions.

Don't know if it'll help, but here's pics of some corner cabinets I recently built.

The bathroom used to have square cabinets over the vanity, and they got in the way of using the sinks. We're really happy with the new configuration with the doors facing diagonally.

thanks man. i didn't see a link or any pictures embedded.
could you reload them, please?

also, i'd love to know how a corner cabinet functions over the sink, in terms of if it gets in the way of the sink at all. for example, can you lean over the sink to spit without hitting your head on it?

also, would you do one sconce or two on either side? i kind of think one scone would be cool along that smaller wall.

thanks again.

ah, there they are. they only loaded after i replied, strangely.

it looks like if there were a corner sink directly underneath that cabinet, that it would get in the way quite a bit, no?
looks like nice work, though.

It would be strange to have the cabinet right above the sink. My old bathroom cabinets were configured that way, and I would often bump my head. If the sink is under the cabinet, I'd either recess a thin medicine cabinet in the wall or would opt for a thin one.

I've got to agree that the corner overhead could end up causing stitches to the cranium. How about a simple mirror system that meets/overlaps in the corner (2 mirrors) that are adhered to each wall, just above the chair rail? You could frame with molding. That way you don't have to choose a particular focal point or side of the sink but still have access to reflection on both side. It would also help to visually expand the space.

Go for storage over the commode.

Could I also suggest a fabric skirt for the bottom of the sink to hide the plumbing? Doesn't have to be frilly ... a nice wide stripe or demask vertical stripe would be great. Hem the bottom for a finished edge and then take some Velcro tape to the inside of the undersink and then to the fabric.

When I wanted to place a shallow medicine cabinet over my sink, I realized that I would be bumping my head almost everytime I use the sink to brush my teeth. The solution was to recess the cabinet in the wall and you should save about 3-1/2 inches. I think a corner cabinet would still project out too far, unless you decide to move the sink.
