basement carpeting

pjpdeluca Newbie   Join Date: Jan 2011 Posts: 1	basement carpeting replacing the basement carpeting - that was put on over what look like asbestos tiles. Carpet guys say the black stuff (between the tiles and the carpet) is asbestos - can this be true?

The tiles of years ago were adhered to the floor with an asphalt based adhesive that contained asbestos. Neither is dangerous if your just laying carpet over them. It's another issue if you beat the crap out of them to take them up. Then precautions need to be taken. Ron
