Baseboard moulding

woodworkbykirk journeyman carpenter     Join Date: Sep 2011 Location: nova scotia canada Posts: 2,162	Baseboard moulding how thick is the baseboard? if its 3/8 pine you should be fine, the nail has to go through the base, 1/2" drywall or up to 7/8 if its plaster and then into the studs. when i install baseboard i use a nailer, as stated about how base takes abuse i use a 16 gauge because of its extra holding power and use 2" nails.
