We are purchasing some Kraftmaid cabinets and plan to do the install on our own... There is an issue with the baseboards for the island that no one ssems to be able to answer for us! The base of the cabinet is 4 1/2 inches from the floor. The "ogee pilaster" decorative baseboard is 4 1/4 ". Whay would this be? What is the installation technique that would not show a 1/4" gap? Any help would greatly appreciated!!
Most of the time a base shoe is installed after the cabinets are all set. This looks like a quarter round...it is 3/4" high x 1/2" thick with a rounded top edge. This piece hides any shimming that was done on the cabinets. It should hide the gap on the island. I am guessing the company made the base 1/4" shy just for ease of installation. I have seen some installations where they leave the gap at the top, sloppy as it is, expecting that people won't see up under the toe space.
