Baluster spacing- old house

I just had a home inspection done on a home over 40 years old. The home inspection said that baluster spacing is more than 4inches and at an improper height. Do I have to change these? I live in Southern Ontario

Not likly, there grandfathered in.
If you were replacing them they would make you build them to code.

Sounds like you need a new home inspector. Anyone who charges should know that.

by code they cannot force you to correct it, however your insurance company can since they are protecting their financial interest in your investment. spacing and height of balusters have been changed due to children suffering injuries or entrapment in the past. Insurance companies can enforce things that building codes cannot. either do it or get someone else to insure it ......

Good luck!

That sounds like pure hogwash to me, but I'll forward it to the SMA for review.
