Atypical Hollow Metal Door/Frame Height
In my super crazy house, the rear basement door to the outside is kinda "cousin Itt" short, like 72" tall, and very "cousin Itt" ratty as well. I'd like to replace it with a steel door and frame but I've noticed that most doors are only available in standard heights, i.e. 6'-8". Question is, can I special order the frame and door at a custom height or is it up to the installer to field modify? If custom orders are no biggie, is this something that you can get through the BORG??!
This is not as easy as it sounds. For one, you generally cannot properly 'field-cut' steel entry doors and have a weather-tight sealed entry.
Recently (about 6 months ago) we had to do an order of 7 'custom sized' (all different dimensioned) steel doors with frames for an older apartment complex.
I spent alot of time going through the different suppliers (Commercial and residential) that we normally do business with.
We eventually ended up going with H.D. (Believe it or not) .... because they offered the most flexibility for our needs (door width, frame length, door size = all being compatible) . Based on the measurements that you provided...I strongly suggest that you get your PRECISE measurements, wall width, inswing direction, bore out design, and give them a try.... (Special order it)
