Antique Look

So I am making wooden plaques out of 1x8 cut to 2' long. Also I am making a hat rack out of 1x8 cut to 4' long. My plans are for the wood to have an antique look. Also to mount it on the wall I was thinking of drilling holes bigger than a nail and have them sticking out past the wood. I was also wanting an antique look for the nails.

Do you know any ways and household items that is usually around the house that could be used to make the best looking antique wood and nails look.

Why not just make them out of old barn boards?

Don't have a barn to just go steal them from. Actually on a budget so can't be buying a lot.

There's a lot of videos online on how to make new wood look old (distressed).

Here's just a couple.

Might try your local Habitat Restore, or other second hand store, and see if they have any old dressers, or whatever, from which you could salvage what you want.
