Question

Advice on U formed shelf

Hello, everyone,

Recently I started growing some vegetables and chillies in my apartments balcony. But for now it's a mess, because there's no room for my plants.

So I would like to make some simple wooden shelf (U formed), but don't have an idea about what structure (contruction) to choose.

I attached a basic plan. It should be about 100 cm tall and have 2 o maybe 3 layers (shelfs?).

I would welcome any advice, Thanks!

Advice on U formed shelf

Google work bench for some ideas on how to build it.
Make it all out of pressure treated wood.
Concider using pressure treaded 5/4 decking boards for the work table, and leave a gap between the boards for drainage.

Advice on U formed shelf

As above suggestion, use 2 or 3 lengths of PT 5/4 x 6" decking for each shelf in depth.
Construct a series of "Ladder like" supports from 1x2" verticals and 1x3's for the rung or shelf supports. Space evenly the supports about 3ft apart so the shelves won't sag. Use galvanized screws.
This type of construction will work as a free standing assembly but a few screws strategically placed will strengthen the whole thing.
