Advicce on broken joint on wooden frame of chair
Recently a joint on my chair broke apart. The two parts of the joint appear to be intact, but I am not sure how to go about fixing it. I attach 2 images to make it clearer how the joint works. Mark1 shows how the 2 parts have separated from side on. Mark2 shows the top down view and you can see the interlocking bits.
So can someone advise on how to reattach it please? My ideas are:
(1) By some strong glue and glue it together
(2) Hammer and nails to stick it together
(3) Someone on here knows a better idea
But I dont have experience at DIY except to put flat pack furniture together (which is probably a lot easier than what I need to do!).
Thanks in advance for any help,
Ideally the joint would be taken apart, the serations lightly sanded , reglued and clamped. If you were to pin nail it, do it from the back.
Ron has the right idea. The joint should be taken apart if possible. I wouldn't use sandpaper though as you don't want to remove any wood. Scrape any old glue off with a flat bladed knife. Don't remove any wood. dry fit the parts together to make sure they fit nice. Then apply titebond to both sides and clamp it up until the glue starts to ooze. You might want to use a C-Clamp across the face to keep the joint tight together. Put small pieces of wood under the clamps so you they don't damage the surface. Leave the clamps on overnight and you should be all set.
