adding on porch rails
I want to attach a rail siding around my back porch. I know everything to do except how do I attach the 2 by 4 to the outside of my house which is brick. how do you keep the screw to stay in the wall.Please help.have to do it myself no extra money to pay expert.

Tapcons screws work well in brick/concrete. You must use the proper size drill bit for the fastener, and it helps if you have a hammer drill.

I also like tapcon screws into masonry.

I don't have a hammer drill just a regular heavy duty drill. Can I use that without going to the expense of renting one? I appreciate the information.Vickie

drilling through brick
use a masonry bit with standard drill and go through mortar instead of tapcons use leaded rawl plugs and stainless steel panhead screws

All my working life, I used a standard drill with masonry bits, as hammer drills hadn't been invented yet!
It just takes longer!

At my last house, they fastened a vertical 2X6 to the wall first and then fastened the top and bottom rails to this!
