4/4 or 5/4 exterior trim size

I've decided to use Miractec for trim but it comes in 4/4 or 5/4 sizes. I'm going to be using Hardie plank siding and vinyl new construction windows.

Is there any real difference between 4/4 and 5/4 or is it just a cosmetic choice?

4/4 is 1" thick and 5/4 is 1ľ" thick.

Definately use the 5/4 trim. The thinner material will not leave enough shadow line for good visual appeal, or enough of an offset to receive the caulking in the areas where the planks lap.
