Mexico vigilantes taking back the country?

Mexico has had its problems in the last few years---

Crooks in the government, drug lords and general anarchy---

I have enjoyed many days in that country , I have hopes and plans to move there some day---but right now is not the time--

I have long believed that the only way the people of Mexico would find peace and stability would be for the citizens to take back the country one town at a time----

A militia or even a vigilante army would be the only answer--

If you have been following the news---that is exactly what is happening--

What do you think?

Mexico vigilantes taking back the country?

Money rules...up to a point.....

I think that point has been reached. The cartels use young men who don't have much of a future....they offer big bucks....status....and a short life. You don't want to see some of the videos I have involving the cartel....

But money goes only so far....I don't know of any revolution that was funded by money....

But I also fear that it's going to get worse before it gets better.

Mexico vigilantes taking back the country?

A year or two ago I read a story about the citizens of a town in Mexico who took control of things. They were tired of the drugs and their young girls being abducted. Now they protect themselves with a checkpoint on the roads leading into town.

If I can find the story again, I'll post a link.

I think that if their government isn't going to protect them, then it's the only option the good citizens have. Their only other choice is to sit back and let the criminals do as they wish - not much of an option there.

Mexico vigilantes taking back the country?

Just came back from a work trip there.

Lovely place but corruption is rampant and I don't see it getting any better anytime soon.

It will take a while, the government is rotten from the top down---

At this point in time the police are often the lookouts for the kidnapers and thieves.

At least we send our governors to jail every few years

I have friends and family that are involved with Mexico---the stories I hear are chilling---The bad guys are without conscience --less than animals--

Mexico vigilantes taking back the country?

I know the main culprits are the border towns. I'm not saying that Mexico as a whole doesn't have issues, but some areas are far worse than others. We normally go to areas just outside of Cancun and while I'm not naive, I've felt it has been safe (but I still have my street sense of course). A beheading along the Mexican border is like a foreigner telling someone that's visiting North Dakota to be careful because there were 4 murders in Chicago. Geographically the 2 are no where close. Now to get back to Chicago Government, about the only way to clean it up might be beheadings. Lol

As a quick example, here's the headlines for right now from the Chicago paper. This is what is seen everyday. For people that live around here this is nothing shocking, but if you aren't from here, you'll say "wtf is going on around there, I'll never visit". But here's the thing, 99% of this doesn't involve the vast majority of normal folks living here! Just like the same with Mexico.

The murders and violence are much deeper inland than you may know--Michoacan is where the vigilantes have been most active---I've been looking to retire to Jalisco---to a small town---there was a kidnapping and four gruesome murders in that town in the last three months---

It's not just the border towns any more.

Mexico vigilantes taking back the country?

Mexico is going to take a LONG LONG time to get better. Historically Italy was like that with the Mafia and there still is lots of corruption in the government there and in other Countries. The problem nowadays is the HUGE amount of $$ to be made in selling drugs and that problem won't go away. The media loves to glamorize crime and criminals. Remember Al Capone and his co-horts and John Gotti. We have the same type of crime in Winnipeg and every city and IMO it is mostly bad drug deals gone wrong. They like to steal each others stash or supply and resell it or someone does not pay his debts soon enough or at all and Voila murders galore. Seems to be isolated to a couple of low income parts of the city and I am sure that is the same elsewhere. I doubt I would make plans to retire in Mexico as it is going to take a LONG time before it gets better.

As I understand it, the corruption among the police in Mexico is so bad, the honest ones must wear masks to hide their identities from the dirty ones to keep themselves and their families safe.

I read an article about a Tijuana police chief names JuliŠn Leyzaola who seemed to be gaining ground, but was highly criticized for his methods. I found a good, but old article about him here http://www.nbcnews.com/id/40394487/n.../#.U3F8YPldVoR .
