I'm excited.. next week we are setting up a satellite system at the jobsite. Dedicated 24Mbps at all times guaranteed. We looked at a T1 line which was cost prohibitive. The satellite costs around 150/mo and we can upgrade to T1 speed for about 1/3 of the price of an actual T1.
Thats strange. I'm using Mozilla right now and its working fine.
What version of Mozilla are you using?
BTW, Welcome to DIY Chat Room!
If you have any question, fire away. There are a lot of contractors that check in from our sister site www.contractorschatroom.com . Their ready to help!

I guess I can't call it a true satellite system.. our receiver points to a transponder approximately 5- miles away. The company who is providing it to us is www.whatwire.com - they have not updated their website as of the last time I talked with the guy he could get us 24Mbps if we needed it for a dedicated service.
I suppose I should have clarified also.. for us to get 1.5Mbps through a T1 line it would cost around $600/month. With whatwire I can get that for around $200. Understand?

I'm hoping so anyway. It's kind of funny really.. but if the project were another block or two closer to town we could get cable or dsl very easily. But we are one street outside of city limits and they want an arm and a leg to extend the cable coverage. Oh well - we'll see how it all works out.
I can't use a dial-up. The smart home system needs at least 500Kbps upload and download for movies and controlling from a remote terminal. So broadband providers need a phoneline or cable - the phoneline has some outdated software on it (Paragon??) so we can't use DSL and cable doesn't come out this far.
If this information really helps you in designing the site, why don't you ask about it during the registration process, rather than asking everyone to give it publicly? It's a fairly innocuous question, but some people are sensitive about weird stuff. For example, me. I would NEVER tell you how I connect the internet. But I'm just funny that way. Besides, it's top secret; something most people haven't even heard of at this point in the technology timeline.
Anyway, if you collected the data during the signup, you could shunt it directly into a spreadsheet or database and it would be ready to help with no manipulation! Just a suggestion, Nathan. By the way.....exactly how does this information help you design the site? Just curious.
How do you guys 'ping' your ISP's? I have a lin to a test site maintained by 'Speakeasy' but don't know if it's accurate. Just got 3210 KB down and 358 KB up.
you can ping by url or by IP. It will return the results from four requests and time their return (or time out in my case here at work since I'm behind some voracious firewalls)
cool -thanks. your performance stats are astounding.
