Not there. I gave it the name of OpenOffice when I saved it to disk.

How can I access free word processing software?
Nope, not there either. I tried that about 15 minutes ago. I also checked in my Programs Folder and it's not there either. I'm going to download it again. That's all I can think of doing at this point.
Question: When I downloaded it the last time, it said "download complete." I think I just x'ed out of it at that point. Was I supposed to do something different in order for it to automatically come up?

There should have been options, such as 'open folder', yup. However, go get it again and drop it on your desktop sounds easiest at this point!

Easy for you to say! How do I just drop it on my desktop once downloading is complete and that little box saying it's complete is there?

The first window that pops up when you click the download link should have the option to send it anywhere on your hard drive. Po)

as far as i know AOL has moved away from being a service provider (ISP) and is now more of a gateway / content provider. if you have broadband you don't need another ISP and can cancel your AOL account. you should be able to pop open IE and be connected directly to the web.
as far as browsers go - as long as you arent using IE6 you arent doing too bad. there are better options than IE(anything) but IE8 isnt a terrible browser. personally i like firefox but have used opera and netscape over the years. chrome also gets good reviews but i have never downloaded it personally.
Firefox
Chrome
Opera
Safari

Roadrunner and aol are time/warner owned is what I meant. He can still use roadrunner as provider.
But I see no reason why anyone should pay to use a browser..... ya know?
I've used all of those too! Chrome wasn't too bad, but....I Like Opera the best, but I keep firefox too. ...I have my reasons...
I have NO ie.exe on my drive!

How can I access free word processing software?
Thanks for the informative information about browsers. I will definitely check into it. Are they (Firefox, Opera) free?
Well, I was able to download OpenOffice again. This time instead of Xing out, there's something I clicked on (Open?), and then I went into unpacking and then installing it. Good. I then made a test document. Good. But now, AOL does not recognize it as a text document. AOL will not open it. I guess because the document created through OpenOffice has the extension .odt. That's only a guess. So now I'm back to not being able to create a text document.

all of the browsers i linked earlier are free.
when you save your file in open office - instead of just saving, do a Save As and save it as a .Doc or .Txt file (Word Document or plain text.) i think you can set .doc as your default file type but i havent used OO in a while.
