Reverse Gear, TroyBilt Snow Blower

I bought a 2 stage snow blower from a neighbor who was moving out of state. TroyBilt 24" 8 h.p. walk behind.
Starts on first pull, runs great and shifts easily through the forward gears.
Problem is with reverse. First reverse gear is a hard pull and doesn't engage. Going into the 2nd reverse takes a real effort but it will at least start to move me backwards. Assuming it's a linkage adjustment? but have no manual and have never played with one of these machines before.
Any advice?
Thanks,
Rob

Post the model number----so someone can pull up the parts/repair PDF---

On their tillers, the reverse is just a pulley wheel at the end of the reverse lever ,which tightens up the reverse pulley---the adjustment is simple as long as the pulley is not slick or stretched out---

Reverse Gear, TroyBilt Snow Blower

oh, Mike,
Thanks for the quick reply. Model # is 42010
First thing I did was to go to the TroyBilt website and download the manual.
Only problem is I can't open it beyond the front page. Not sure why.
I'll take a look at the belts and linkage and see what I can see.
Thanks again,
Happy New Year!
Rob

We have some good wrench turners here--but it might be a while before they check in--so be patient--

Try this link:
http://lawnandgarden.manualsonline.c...?idRes=5935042

At the top of the page is a link to View Original Manual. It will open the manual as a PDF.

Final note to Mike and dj,
You two sure made life a lot easier for me. The manual link worked perfectly and directed me to an adjustment bolt at the rear of the machine. Can't believe how easy it is to shift in and out of all gears now, and reverse is much more responsive. Don't have to pull the machine backwards, which at my age wasn't a whole lot of fun. Like having a new machine.
Thanks again, and Happy New Year to you and yours.
Rob
