Removing spindle and shaft

I have to replace my shaft due to the star pattern stripping out on the bottom. My problems are that I can't just put the blade on and loosen the pulley nut because the star pattern is stripped. Also, I can't hold on to the pulley because my impact wrench broke the bolt loose a little then I stripped the threads on the pulley. What can I use to hold on to it so my impact wrench can do its job? Thanks.

Please provide us with more specific information - make, model, etc.
