Murray riding mower (465306x8) won't start
Drive belt broke so we replaced it, now mower will not start. We have had the battery checked-its good and fully charged, replaced selinoid, checked starter- all have power going to them, checked all 3 safety switches- all 3 are working, gas flows through all lines, new gas in tank, gas cap not clogged, oil level good and fairly new, spark plugs look good. Any idea what to do next?

Welcome, and thank you for a good description of the situation. Do you have spark at the plugs?

Having Same Problem
Drive belt broke. After replacing, the machine won't turn over. Did once, but wouldn't start. Now won't turn at all.

The person that replaced the belt lifted the machine onto it's back wheels so he could get to the belt. I noticed a screw that wasn't put back on, he said it wasn't needed. (Could that be the problem)

He thought it may be because the belt is tight and sprayed wd40 on the pulley/belt area. Still did not work.

We checked the battery and it is hot.

Anybody the sprays WD 40 on a belt because it is too tight should be taken out behind the barn and shot. Well, at least beat with a wet noodle.

First of all, to your description. "Wont turn over" to me means you cant even get the crank shaft to turn. Is this the case?

Second, the "Drive Belt" should be loose when you are starting the motor, and it should be engaged by some sort of spring loaded lever. No motor is going to start with a load on it. Is the belt you replaced about the same size and width as the one that broke?

Third: Assuming the motor will actually "Turn Over" with no drive belt in place, Are you getting spark?

You do know how to check for spark, right?

This thread is now double-old, but I thought I'd point out for anyone who stumbles across it that installing the wrong belt can keep the mower from starting. If it goes on really tightly, check the part number again. Murray is defunct, so if you find a belt in your average hardware store it'll likely be tossed in with a bunch of others and it's easy for them to be mixed up.
