Looking for a riding mower

I am sure some of you have been in my position before about determining the mower to get. Seeing that many options are available, it's really hard to say which one is the "right" one.

Nonentheless, my question or request by this post is to get some advise from the posters.

Some conditions I think I should list so you could help me get started:

1) It's a 20 degree hill on 1/2 acre backyard.
2) Cost less than $2k???
3) Reliability vs Maintenance

The rest of your budget can be better used on accessories.

Before purchasing I suggest doing some research of mower and especially engine and transmission manufacturers to determine if a particular lawn tractor is advisable for your 20 degree slope.

I see in the Craftsman link " Terrain Type: Flat " is mentioned or possibly suggested. Which ever, it's rather vague. Who ever wrote that manual may have not taken Plain Geometry or failed the course because an incline of 45° can be flat.

But, an incline of 45 degrees can ONLY be flat. If it is not flat then there are angles other than 45 along the generalized slope (trend line). Accordingly, stating that a 45 degree incline is "flat" is obvious and redundant.

I would go with a John Deere. I would not take the gift of any of the "cheaper" mowers.
A simple thing like like changing a belt or removing the deck on a cheap mower is a nightmare. I can pull my whole deck in less then 5 min. with no tools.
Just look at how thin there decks are.
I had a lower cost L110 John Deere for about 8 years mowing 6 lawns every week and still was working fine when I sold it to replace with a Z turn.
Only thing I ever did was replace on belt and a battery.

how many acres are you mowing??? that will help in determining what size deck you might want to look at as well as the horsepower of the mower.
