Lawnmower won't start after oil change

Tipped over my Lawn Boy mower to change the oil and now it won't start. I followed the instructions in the manual and used the recommended amount of clean oil. Any suggestions to resolve this issue will be greatly appreciated.

Older mower?
There's no need to tip it over to change the oil.
May now have oil on the top side of the cylinder and in the carburetor.
Pull the plug out and see if it's covered in oil.

Lawnmower won't start after oil change

Mower is about 5 years old. The manual says to tip it over to drain the oil and I've done that several times over the years without problems. I pulled out the spark plug and it was covered in oil. I then drained some of the oil and sprayed some brake cleaner in the spark plug hole then took a paper towel and pushed it into the hole to suck up any liquids. I cleaned the spark plug with brake and carb cleaner and put it back in. No joy. I took out the spark plug again and replaced it with a brand new one that I had laying around the garage. Still no joy. Any ideas?

Probably oil in the carburetor surrounding the float or maybe a sticking float.

What make is the engine and what is the HP?

Check for a spark at the plug wire.

Was the mower ran to warm it up before the oil change?
Just so we know that it ran before the oil change, the oil change might not have a thing to do with the starting problem.

Check it's airway, it's spark, it's fuel supply. etc.

I once was the service tech on these small engines, I have seen them come in for repairs with a sandwich bag stuffed deep into the airway, because the operator wanted the afternoon off after lunch, and thought that if the engine wont run the boss will let them go fishing. Boss was wise to this and issued a reel type for the rest of the day. It never happened again.

Yes, I ran the mower before the oil change until it ran out of fuel. It took about 20 mins to run out of fuel. The oil runs out easier when it's hot.

O K , We had a running mower before the oil change.

Maybe the float system has stuck shut and will not let fuel get to the carburetor, Have you checked the air filter? Spark at the plug wire?

It also holds the contaminants better when warm, to flush them out with the old oil,.

Make sure carberator and air filter are not saturated with oil. If so, clean them up with some carb cleaner and try again.

Floats, springs, hinges can be delicate when you start doing cartwheels with an engine of this type. Oil goes where it shouldn't go, fuel gets into the crankcase and contaminates the oil, all kinds of things can happen.

I'm betting the float has somehow fowled and is either sticking or dislodged.

Still need to know if there is a spark, or oil in the carb.

Take the plug out and mist a little gas into the cylinder, put the plug back in and see if it will fire, if so, you will have spark and no gas to cylinder, if not, no spark.

Might have an empty carb float bowl since you ran it out of gas if it's not filling with the primer bulb...

Might have had no spark due to oil fouled spark plug, then the brake/carb clean washed the oil film off the cylinder wall resulting in low compression (I squirt one little squirt of oil or transmission fluid in the plug hole to seal the rings when that happens)...

But as was stated, check for spark, check for oil soaked air filter, and make sure the float bowl has fuel in it. Some mowers (especially older ones) can be a bear to start after running dry.
