Lawn Mower Clutch

Hello there, I'm lookin for some answers about my Dad's riding lawnmower. It's a simple thing. The mower starts up but dies when you release the foot pedal for the clutch. It's like it automatically shuts down once the clutch pedal is released. We have no idea where to start but I have some tools & some experience in automotive. Any answers or direction appreciated

step one is getting a manual so learn what is *supposed* to be going on:

With that manual in hand (or the help of a handy neighbor) and a few common tools you can probably fix anything related to how the (upper) belt engages the transmission.

Do yourself a favor and thoroughly wash down everything real well.
And I'd suggest removing the blade deck too.

I agree with Tarheel; the manual is your friend. Meanwhile, my first guess is the seat switch.

yeah...I'll go copy the rest of that model number & get a manual.

besides that I know the connector on the underside of the seat was intentionaly jumped w/a wire. i don't know why or who did it, but it did run like that. why whould they need to jump that seat switch connector??? I'll look up manual & keep you posted.
