Honda HRX-217

Mowing my lawn today, the mower just sort of "shut down"... It had been running a good 30mins because I had cut over 75% of the yard. The grass wasn't particularly high or anything, I was mowing on a level surface. The throttle was set to "fast" which is how I always mow.

When I tried to re-start it, gave me a VRRroooommmm......stop.

I put the throttle at slowest, restarted and it starts and "idles" for about 20-25 seconds before dying. If I try to increase the throttle while in this state it will immediately die.

- Oil is full and clean
- Air filter is not overly dirty
- Fuel is turned on and flowing into the carb
- Fuel is new this season, fact that it had been running fine for the 30 mins prior would indicate it's not a fuel quality issue
- I get good flow from the tank if I pull the hose from the carb, so it's not a vacuum/flow issue
- I removed the carb, the float bowl is full, but not overflowing

What the heck could be wrong?

BTW this is just another sign that I should buy cheap lawn equipment, because so far season #2 has been an issue for both my expensive mower and expensive weedwacker.

Time to pull the carberator apart to clean and rebuild it.
While your at it add a fuel filter to the line.
