why does it take 3 pulls to start a6.5 briggs lawn mower

Because it's a 6.5 briggs & stratton.
Should have gone with the 6.0,that only takes two.

Three pulls is not a hard start, that's about normal.

briggs 6.5 h.p. hard starting


Push the primer bulb a few more times. My 6.5 is over 15 years old and still starts on the first pull, but now I have to prime 8-10 times instead of the original 3-4. Replacing the bulb and rebuilding the carb has been on my list for a long time, just not a high priority. Probably won't get done until it fails completely.
