What to Use Sealing Concrete Patio

Having a 27ft x 21ft concrete patio(used for table, chairs, grill, etc) installed.

The permit says:
4" 6-1/2 sack mix,
4" gravel base
#10 wire mesh
cure and seal

Spoke with person doing the work about the sealing part. He mentioned using a Thompsons brand sealer from big box store.

Been reading about "Penetrating Sealers" with siloxanes as being better because they penetrate yet are more pricey than acryylics/polyurethanes/epoxies which form a protective film on the surface of the concrete.

I'm not concerned about an extra hundred bucks to use a good sealer. If the contractor wants to use the less expensive film forming sealer, I'll throw in the extra product money to purchase a good penetrating sealer.

Thoughts on what to use and when to apply?
Our climate here in Ohio is cold-snowy winters and warm summers.

A 61/2 bag mix for a patio is really unneccessary,51/2 with a water reducing agent is more than enough.
4 inch stone base is good, make sure it's compacted.
#10 wire is good,#6 would be better.
Sealers are good, penetrating is okay but not long lasting, especially the water based kind, polyurethane is much longer lasting, apply according to mfg. directions.

Make sure the contractor orders air entrained concrete for your job.

Looks good,i'm sure you'll enjoy it for many years to come.

If it were mine i'd use a solvent based polyurethane, very long lasting and you get better coverage than the acrylics, next would be a penetrating sealer, which include silanes, siloxanes, and silicates.

If an acrylic was used after install can a penetrating sealer be used in two years?

I would think so,since acrylics have to be resealed every 2-3 years to be effective.
