Water leaking in the basement

I have recently noticed water leaking in my basement over the top of my concrete foundation. Closer inspection of the outside directly above where the water is coming in shows that the top of the concrete foundation wall is well above grade, I also noticed that there is a plastic membrain laying over the edge that of the concrete that runs back behind the bricks. It appears that the plastic may be channeling the water back towards the house and thus into the basement. Can I trim this membrain back flush with the brick? Does this area need to be flashed or waterproofed with something?

U definitely need some kind of drip cap flashing. It should have been installed behind the stone and the membrane tucked under the flashing. So any water running down the stone hits the cap and directs it away from getting behind that membrane. That's definitely where your leak is coming from.

Is that something I can get done after the fact? What about using a angle grinder to cut a Channel along the junction of the foundation and brick and then slide in a piece of angle flashing, then caulk it in?

i am thinking that i would cut/grind the foundation to an angle that would let the water flow to the outside. but, perhaps cutting the plastic away and caulking would be ok (for a while).

i'd 1st try trimming that flap & sealing the area ( overbandng the joint ) w/ames' research stuff ( no financial interest ),,, NEVER use caulk - use a proper jnt sealant IF you must !

Go back to your posts with your photos and remove the photos, edit them by rotating so that they are in the correct orientation.

Or leave as is.

Thanks all for the replies and I apologize for the sore necks. That is the front of my house, there are gutters on the second story above it but no way of stopping rainfall from hitting it. I'm thinking about trimming that membrain back and seeing if that helps. If anyone else has any other ideas pleas let me know, thanks for all the help guys.

drippage from the structure's face causes problems like water under the sill plate,,, we do this for a living & that's our 1st direction - good luck !

Why not take a hose and spray that membrane and see if the leak develops.

Is the window directly above where the leak develops?

Is the home all brick construction or is the side in post #3 brick veneer?

Does the leak develop during any rain or only during a wind driven rain?

That sill looks nearly flat as well.

Have you check the drainage pipe for obstruction or incompleteness underground?

+1 on the other feedback as it pertains to the membrane.
