stuccoing a patch- what do they call it?

People,

I seem to remember years ago, when I did a stucco patch on ext of house, youre supposed to buy one kind of mix for the 1st scratch coat, then a 2nd type for the finish stucco surface. Am I right? HD says they have one kind that is suitable for both finishes.

Why am I thinking the finish mix has a different name(?). Also, 80lb bag seems to be typical of this product. Man, thats heavy......LOL

Normally the sratch coat should be stronger than the top.
A typical mix would be 1/1/4 lime/OPC/sand for the scratch and 1/1/5 for the top, although some plasterers prefer 1/1/5 and 1/1/6.
I think in the USA the base is known as the brown coat, and the top as the colour coat, but I'm not 100% sure.
Cement bags used to be 112 lbs here, but EU regs now mean that 25 KGs is the limit.

Thanks, Stuart! Geez, 112lb!! Too heavy! Yes, I did learn they call it brown coat. I also heard sometimes 3 coats are required (final on top of brown coat).

Hurray for the EU! They have your health in mind! Sow, your boss says "go and get and carry TWO of the 25Kg bags......LOL
