I am adding a large brick addition to my home. The brick in one area does not match the rest of the brick. My contractor is proposing to stain the brick to match instead of replacing. Does this seem like a reasonable solution? I understand bricks come in different lots, but it seems like they should have made sure they had matching bricks before doing the job.
No reason the bricks can not be matched close enough no one will notice.
I've never once heard a mason suggest trying to stain them.
If they tryed that you would end up having to stain the whole wall at least to get it to match.
This is a common problem with certain types of bricks, as different batches of the same type can vary slightly and show up when laid in the wall.
The way round it is for the hod carrier to take bricks from different pallets, rather than working a pallet at a time.
