Side walk question
We've got a side walk that was poured last Summer -
Bag mix -
Out of the sun - kept wet -
(Not down pouring rain)
Winter has come - there's a bag of rock-salt in the garage -
Ice build-up, on some spots -
It's not "spalling" -
Deteriorization of the surface -
If the concrete
was of the correct mix
of correct water:cement ratio
it should not
Anytime you use concrete in a exterior cold weather situation, it is generally accepted that it should be air entrained (5% air) to get freeze-thaw durability even with salt.
Thanks for the response, people! :)
It was protected.
It's "bag-mix" - could not get a truck in. (300 - 60# - bags)
Thanks again! :)
I believe they have bag mixes with air entrainment. Now, how accurate the percentage is (6%+/- 1.5), is anybody's guess. Chemical entrainment is easier to dose, but wouldn't survive being cooped up in a bag.
