sealing boulder / decorative rock

Hello i've got a huge boulder that i'v place in my front yard as a decoration piece. it is dark tan in colour and i would like to bring out a darker shade and/or possibly give it a wet look. how can i do this?

i have heard you can use mineral oil or a sealant. any truth? any other recommendations? thanks in advance.
