Rock Wall in Shower

1 Attachment(s)
I am curious to know if a rock wall in a shower needs to be sealed. Before the remodel we used to have it covered by a shower curtain. This used to be an exterior wall. The people before us added the master bed and bath onto the backside of the house. (See attached Pic) If it has to be sealed what would be available, I would like to keep the natural look.

ALL sealers will add sheen to the rock,,, you just need to determine how much you wish,,, proper sealing will make the shower stall easier to clean,,, find a good sealer from prosoco, sika, or many others ( no $ interest )

We put a stone floor in one of our bathrooms. I sealed it with a product called Aqua Mix Stone Enhancer. No sheen at all, and not expensive. Nothing is going to be permanent - you'll have to redo it periodically. Can't really compare it to other products as it's the only such thing I've ever used.

Using a sealer certainly can't hurt it,the mortar used to construct the wall would surley benifit by using a sealer, and use a penetrating product like one of these in the link.

Most if not all sealers are rated for occasional water. Sealers rated for immersion will generally change the appearance of the surface. If a rock surface is desired for an immersion surface, the backing needs to be rated as a waterproof envelope.
