Removing mailbox slot in brick wall

Hi, new here, hope I am doing this right, my apologies if not!

I have the following question: My Mid century brick ranch has an in-wall mailbox slot next to the main door. Essentially, someone removed a brick, put a mailbox slot into the hole and then on the inside there a mail catch cutout in the drywall. The mail slot insert is broken, too small for mail and provides no insulation with wind coming through right into the living room. I need to remove it.

I know how to replace a brick into the void. And I know how to repair the drywall on the inside. Would it be ok to just replace the brick, fill with fiberglass insulation from behind and repair the drywall on top if it? Or do I need to place other layers between brick and insulation to avoid water damage? Keep in mind, this is just one brick.

Thanks for any help!

A picture is always nice.
Your plan sounds fine.
There's just no way to put anything on the backside of the brick.
