Refacing fireplace w/ Coronado Stone

Greetings
We have a roughly WxH 6x12 fireplace I want to reface with coronado stone. Can anyone brake down what I need to do to the existing fireplace before I start applying the stone to the bricks? http://http://www.facebook.com/photo...type=1&theater

Really not much to do if the brick is clean. The stone can be adhered directly to the brick in this case. You will want to plan out what you're going to do with the hearth overhang though. And plan an approach that will allow you to change out the FP doors if necessary in the future.

Thanks for the reply and information. I plan on just bricking up to the sides of the FP grill cause we are gonna replace that as well.. yes the bricks are clean, but do I have to put a scratch coat of mortar or something on the surface of the brick fireplace? before I start mortaring the stones and placing them on the on the fireplace?

No scratch coat is required.

any advice on mortar, or tips on starting the stone work? little things like " that would of been a good trick to know before I finished it " ... new to masonry..

Thanks
