rainwater in the fireplace
I have water leaking inside the chimney down into the fireplace area. I can see water running down the brick inside. What is the most likely cause of this? There is no cap on either of the two square concrete pipes exiting the chimney.

The cause is most likely 1) it's raining or 2) your neighbor is spraying your fireplace chimney with his garden hose.

Really should have a screened cap. It helps the chimmney to draw better, keeps out critters and rain.
If your anywhere near where that hurricane was there not much short of capping the chimmney that would have kept out water.

look up your chimney from the fireplace .... if you see blue sky

as Joe said you should have a screen cap to prevent rain/snow but also varmits

of course an event like Sandy can still force water down your screen capped chimney

The cap would allow water into the flue, not the chimney. Most likely the chimney cap (not the lack of a flue cap) is the problem; it is very common.
