Proper way to install decorative concrete trim
People,
Having a stucco guy do stucco on garage face (2 garage doors facing road). He is gonna install (glue on/cement on) decorative lightweight trim around both door openings.
Thing is- he placed the trim where the inside edge of the trim is FLUSH with the inside door opening. Thereby, no "reveal" edge which, to me, enhances the trim look, like a carpenter would do on an inside doorway with casing trim- theres ALWAYS a reveal edge, about 1/8' to 2/8" or so (varies).
What do you think? Can /should exterior concrete trim have a "reveal"?

Problem is he's not a carpenter, he's a stucco guy as you said,and they do things a little different, when you contract with someone to do a job for you, do it in writing so all parties understand each other, and NEVER ASSUME ANYTHING.

One can not encompass all unforseens in a contract, which in fact, I do have. The reason for my thread is to get opinions on what is customary on concrete trimming, not if I should have had a written contract. Maybe a reveal does not normally apply to stucco work (?)
I should have added- he already put the trim onto the 1st coat. Is that normal? Guess hes gonna put finish coat and feather it onto the trim(?) Is that normal? Thats what Im after. I cant dictate to him what to do as orthodox stucco practices........

Proper way to install decorative concrete trim
If the trim is on top of the first coat, then I would think you would have a reveal. Color coat is only 1/8" or so.

Normally foam popouts get a coat of base/coat adhesive. Are you using a synthetic finish coat?

Thanks, T, but not sure what youre asking. If youre asking about how he glued the trim on, I think with concrete. Dont know what finish coat he will use. I did have 3 bags of quick dry stuff from HD hes using- not sure though, it it will be enough for the finish, although, if it will be enough, I understand it also can be used for finish.

Foam shapes are normally used on EIFS systems, not 3 layer cementious stucco systems. It is possible to use a synthetic finish over cementious stucco, but the foam has to be coated with a thin, high strength coat before the finish coat, otherwise every time you bump in to it, it will dent and crack.
