paver edge and sand

Hi, about to start a walkway that i have dug out of the lawn. crush base of 6-8inches, now because the grass is cut to shape, do I need to put down the edging strip to hold the pavers tight? or will the grass do it for me? also, do I put the egding in before the sand, or on top of the sand bedding?
Thanks for the feedback!
Cheers!

Yes, I would most certainly use the paver edging to hold things in place. And the paver edging should be nailed into the compacted subbase, so the subbase should extend 6 inches or so beyond the edge of your walkway. To keep the nice lawn up to the edge of the new walkway, I would try and flip the grass sod over and away from the walkway to gain access for more subbase.
