Laying Slate Tiles on Concete Patio

What is the best way to keep slate tiles from chipping off once installed? Some slate patios I've seen have a ton of layers chipping off? Best to seal before laying or after, or both?

Not sure you can really stop them from chipping thats just the nature of slate especially when there outside exposed to the elements. If you used a thick polyurethane sealer you might prolong the life of the tiles by quite some time.

This is just an educated idea. GL
