Hey folks, looking for some advice. Im building a dog kennel out the back, however, need a good solid concrete base which the kennel will go on and form the dog run as well. However, the grass out the back is susceptible to rain, its bloody soggy and soft, not overly, you dont sink, but its certainly soft. What sort of precautions should be taken, issues that are created from having soft soil/grass. I do intend on getting a pro to do this, however, just looking for some advice before getting someone out to look at it.
You need to remove all organic material (black soil) and unacceptable soil (weak silt, soft clay) before you put down the concrete pad. Typically this may involve removal of a foot or more of soil, then backfill to grade with crushed stone. But of course the contractor you hire should know all this, just make sure they do.
