lab foudation cracking and coming up! PICS

I need to find out what the heck is going on in this house that I am thinking about buying. There is a 4x4 section of the concrete slab that has a crack and is sloping up like a little hill in the floor of the kitchen. I have attached pictures. I was thinking it could be the tree outside but that seems kind of to far from the house to crack it. Does anyone know what else could be the problem, can this be a diy where I cut out the raised part and pour new concrete and rebar? I attached pics

This would be a good time for you to hire your own professional foundation inspector before you buy the house. Getting advice over the internet for a house purchase is pretty sketchy, no one has seen the place, you did not even tell us where the place is located, could be in Zanzibar for all we know.

The photos are helpful but I can not make out any actual crack where part of the slab is raised, it seems that the slab is mounded up and so I wonder if this was with the initial placing of the concrete or a subsequent repair e.g. was the slab once broken up to repair a water or heating pipe? The tree is pretty far away and the roots would have to pass the foundation, so I don't see the tree being the cause. I don't have any real direction for you except I think you need to open it up and take a look. Good Luck if you buy it.

At what point with the wood covering the floor, that you have determined that the slab has heaved? If it was my fair guess, I would have to say that it is a problem with the finished flooring, without pulling it up and seeing that the floor has heaved or not.

The house is a great great deal, Im just exploring the option. The concrete is heaved and at its point it is cracked. You cant see it in the photos but you can easly feel the bump when you walk over it you just cant see well in the photos.

Can you talk to a neighbor who built the house? If the house has recently been built that is. Is it brick or frame outside? brick damage could indicate bad footer and wall is sinking. Try putting a level on ceiling inside to see if it indicates a sinking wall. If the house is a bargin ,buy it ,there is a solution to all problems.

I've seen quite a few concrete floors like that, and they were often caused by a sulphate attack.
A tree that close to the house can also cause problems if the house is built on shrinkable clay. It's not so much the roots damaging the foundations by growing through them, as sucking the moisture from the clay making it shrink and take the foundation down a bit nearest the tree.
