how deep do i dig footing?

I am building a block front porch that is 74 in wide and 16 ft long and 2ft high, do I need to fill the inside with dirt or with concrete?

Your local building dept. will tell you how wide and how deep it needs to be and how many pieces of rebar your going to need.

Ever done this before? I'm guessing not because of the questions.
It sure would be a great job to hire out.

Your location is needed to get a good answer---frost line depth is needed to help you.

You likely have no frost line, so you need to excavate through all "organic" soil and down to solid soil. The inside should be backfilled up to the bottom of the concrete with either gravel compacted in short lifts, or a clear stone with no fines in it.............
