on grade footings.

i have these rooms in my basement that i want to excavate and use for something. as it turns out, the foundation of the outside walls and that middle wall, does not go "into" the ground. the footing was dug just below grade and the blocks are just about above grade.

so, i understand i cannot dig right up to the footings. but how close can i get ? the ground is dirt and pretty solid. the middle wall, it is not load bearing, so i plan to bust that out.

i was planning to make the closest room a full bathroom. and the further room storage. and i still can, but the rooms would be much smaller.

i'm fishing for ideas here.

1st room 5.5'x about 11'. 2nd room 6.5'x11'.

That situation could turn ugly quickly, for your safety and peace of mind I would recommend having an engineer check that out and give you advice, digging too close to your existing footing could be dangerous. We can't know all there is to know to give you a safe answer. JMHO
