foundation and footing problems

how big of a deal are cracks in a cmu block foundation and a crack in the footing? i really like a house that im looking at, but i noticed that it has these problems in the crawl space. just wanted to know if it was still worth considering. thanks

If your that interested hire an engineer to come take a look at it.
It could be the best money you ever spent if it ends up saving you thouands of dollars in repairs.
If a foundation is bad then the rest of the house will follow.

As a very - repeat VERY - rough guide, if cracks are vertical and of fairly even width end-to-end, and not too wide, it's probably just shrinkage cracking (concrete blocks are well-known for this).
If the width of a vertical crack varies, and is noticeably wider at one end than the other, then you could well have problems as it suggests uneven and possibly continuing settlement of the foundation.

This house wont even pass inspection with a sever issue like foundation failure. You need to get an estimate from several different foundation repair companies and present this to the seller in order to take it off the asking price.

Concrete cracking is typical and expected in some cases, and could be an indication of failure or a larger problem.

Its probably best to post some pictures here first and we can provide better direction.
