Does this look like wood burning fireplace?

It has a keyhole for gas on the left, but not sure if it can burn wood too.

Does that chimney look like it's capable?

House was built in 60's.

Looks like it could handle a small woodburning fire but best to have it inspected and the chimney swept if it has not been used for awhile. The fact there is not sign of soot on the white brick suggests it has been used mainly as a gas fireplace? Or the valve could be for a gas starter? You are prone to earthquakes so you want to make sure the chimney has not cracked.

The size of the firebox is really out of scale for that massive amount of brick. Hard to tell from the photo how deep it is? I think if somebody built it with that much masonry and what looks like a ceramic chimney it was meant to burn wood at one time.

Fireplaces are really nice I think but most not at all energy efficient. In fact, their drafts can suck warm air right out the chimney. Worse with woodburning than gas. Toss some "campfire memory" incense in the thing for the smell.

Thats a good looking fireplace from the inside. At a minimum get a chimney sweep guy to have a look.
