Cracks and broken pieces.

Hi all,
I'm fairly new to working with any type of concrete or cement. I used self levelling cement in my basement, but that's about it.

We recently moved into our 60 year old house, and now that all inside work is done, we're concentrating on the exterior.

I noticed around the side of the house the previous owners put a layer of cement or something around the entire parameter. Actually, most the houses in the area have this "protective" coating. I noticed some areas have broken pieces and other areas which are cracks.

I'm wondering what type of product was used to do this. I tried googling, but I don't even know what the process is called.

What type of product should I purchase to make repairs these broken areas (the protective layer which is broken causing cinderblocks to be visible).

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

It is called "parging" and you can use regular ready mix mortar to re-do it. Add some bonding agent for even better results.
