cracked slab in new construction that sat for a couple of years
I have been offered what might be a really good deal on a condo but I've noticed a problem. This is a 3 condo bldg that was built a couple of years ago and then the builder went bankrupt. It was completely dried in (brick) but the inside never finished. It was recently purchased by a new builder who is finishing the development. He offered me a low price but when I went to look at the them the slab had some pretty large cracks (long and wide). They say they are going to fill with expansion material but how worried should I be about the site not being prepared correctly and the condos having problems down the road?

My first inkling would be bad compaction of the base material, but without a picture, it's tough to say.

I can probably get picks this evening and post tonight or in the morning.

Bad construction on a condo? Problems down the road? New builder will give you a good deal? How many red flags do you actually need to see?

I went back to take pictures and they have already put down the flooring. I've decided to let this one go. One other thing I didn't like was that there was a retaining wall behind them and the road went up a hill to the left of them so the back yards are probably going to stay damp and in NC that means mosquitos! Thanks everyone for the replies. Glad I found this site, it's going to be useful!!

Eww, skeeters suck, especially in North Cakalaky.
