concrete floor breezeway/mudroom

I have a small concrete floor in my breezeway, it is covered in carpet. I hate the carpet trying to keep this area clean of dirt and mud, I would like to know what else i can put down myself first job of its kind for me? and can anything be put down under what i put to keep this area warmer in the winter. We freeze putting on winter gear in this area?

How much room do you have from the top of the threshold to the floor?
Is there a heating vent in the room?
