Can I cover my cement steps?

Wow, I haven't been here for a while........

I have a crack in my front steps. Is there any type of cut stone that I can put on the steps and the risers? Something that I don't have to cut.

Thanks you wonderful folks here.

Unless your steps are exactly the right width to match the size of the stones or tiles.....No.

Before you try to cover the crack......just how big is that crack? And why do you have a crack? If it's getting bigger....you're going to have a bigger problem if you cover it.

For the record....it's not a big deal cutting stone. Yes I have a tile saw...but I have also used a skillsaw with stone cutting blade. It's not hard to cut the stone...messy....but not hard.

Thanks for your reply dd.

The crack is not on the step its at the bottom of the riser. I think the frost moved the whole things and cracked.

I really don't want to cut stone. I just wanted to put something over the whole thing so that it would look nice and cover that crack. Something easy.

Is there anything else that I can do?

There are a lot things you could use to cover concrete steps. The problem is you'll end changing the rise of the first and last step of whatever the thickness of the material you choose. The first step will end up taller with the last step shorter. This will create a trip hazarded.

In most places code only allows for a maximum of a 3/8" variance in the rise of the steps. So to cover the steps in outdoor carpet for example likely would not create any issues, anything thicker probably would.
