Can anyone explain this basement slab issue?

Hi there.

I found some rotted out studs in one corner of my basement while laying a new floor.

After tearing out the wall ( and then another wall ), I found that there is an area between where it seems the slab ends and cinder blocks begin where there is a bunch of rocks filled into broken away concrete.

It almost looks like the wall was moved in ( which I don't think is what really happened ). But it definitely looks like this was done purposely as this only starts at one wall and goes around the corner up until there is a column of cinder blocks which are stacked next to the regular wall. I also found pieces of broken concrete which match the broken floor concrete in a part of the wall that doesn't have this problem.

Has anyone ever seen something like this?

Sorry for rambling on, but I'd really like to get to the bottom of this. Photos on the way.
