jbillups Newbie   Join Date: Dec 2011 Location: Ohio Posts: 19	building firplace Does a gas fireplace need a full chimney or can I use a standard 6" exhaust pipe out of the wall? This fireplace will be in the basement.

hvac benny Member   Join Date: Dec 2009 Posts: 547	building firplace You need to follow the manufacturers specifications. In other words, step one is deciding on the fireplace, not installing venting.

That could mean single walled, double walled, triple walled. Most use a very expencive pipe that draws in fresh air for combustion and vents all in the same pipe.
