Basement Brick wall

http://www.diychatroom.com/members/h...255-161537.jpgIm looking to fix my basement walls due to some brick having spaces in them. I do not know what I need to do to fix this. Im getting ready to sell it, and my realtor said I need to fix the basement walls, along with the chipping paint. Can anyone give me any insite on what I need to do, perferably something easy. The bricks do look like they have been painted white. The house was built in the 20's. Thanks.

This sounds like this is the perfect question requiring a picture. Not sure what you mean by spaces.

Those look like they have been painted, how big of an area do you have to fix??

hardworknlady81 05-26-2012 12:02 PM

There are quite a few spots like that in the basement. thru out the entire basement which is 4 different rooms. some 2x2 areas 4x4 areas. Some areas are right by the door ways. it all has been painted.

Do I have any other options beside mortar? Im not looking to make the basement nice, I just need to fix some of the bricks and paint it.

The spacing in those bricks looks to be quite wide,so i would use a closed cell backer rod and just leave about a 1/2 inch to use a caulk to finish it,the backer rod comes in various sizes so you'll have to measure and see what size will work for you ,or you may have to use various sizes,i'll attach a link for the backer rod so you have an idea of what it is,i don't know if home depot or lowes carries it but you can try there.

Oh boy... Maybe ill hire someone to do that for me. Lol. Thanks for the input. Anymore suggestions would be great. Once I repair the spaces , can I just paint ovr it or is there something else that has to go on to?
