Advice on refinishing BBQ Island?

It's in pretty sad shape, but the brick work is solid. The tile work is falling apart, and the wobbling over hanging ledges are probably part of the reason for that. I can't decide on coal or propane.

What would be the best way to refinish for a 1st time diy'er? As in long lasting, difficult to screw up? Oh, and fix the wobbling over hang portions?

Here are pictures.

Start taking it down and see how unstable it is as you go down.

Could be solid midway through and if you are happy with the look...just re-build it.

I'm hoping to find time to tear down all the tile work this weekend. How would you reinforce and strengthen the ledge portions?
