16" wide island

I'm working on an outdoor kitchen. standard 8x8x16 cmu. one leg of the kitchen is going to be an island with a double overhung countertop (36" countertop centered over a 16" base). my initial question here is how to best build this "wall". I'm guessing I still want to stagger the joints as I go up the wall, but should I lay an entire course of 16" blocks "wide", and then on course two turn everything 90deg and alternate all the way up? i'm sure someone has a great picture of this exact idea. Thanks for the help.

OF COURSE ! just don't forget to mechanically attach the top & fill the block cells from the btm course up to & incl the top course,,, that way your brother-in-law will have a harder time tipping over your very fine island
